Saturday Afternoon Haul - January 15, 2022
It's the first Saturday Afternoon Haul of the new year! While toy releases are pretty slow right now, I did find a few things I didn't expect at the local Wal-Mart.
First off, I was surprised to see all of the new Universal Monsters Funko enamel pins. I was barely aware of them and never expected them at my Wal-Mart. The wave includes Dracula, Frankenstein ('s monster), the Bride of Frankenstein and the Wolfman. Each is about 4" tall and features a vividly colored version of their Funko toy counterpart.
The second item is the BST AXN 5" Buffy Summers from Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. The figure is stylized after Buffy's seventh season duds and includes three pairs of hands, a bow and arrow gun, the Scythe axe and of course, a stake. The head sculpt is okay and vaguely recalls Sarah Michelle Gellar. The box design and artwork, like the figure itself, are nothing great, but passable for a modern figure. For what it's worth, there was also an Angel figure, but I passed on that one.
The last thing I found was the rare Bat-tech Batman from Spin Master. This is the semi-transparent blue version. Now, if I could just hunt town the semi-transparent red version of Robin, which, in my head canon, is a version of Tim Drake as Red Robin in the Spin Master universe. I'm never sure when a figure is supposed to be Damien and when it's supposed to be Tim anymore--but that's a future post waiting to be written. Anyway, I know most collectors are cold on the Spin Master DC stuff, but honestly, I've preferred the variety of that line to the lame "extreme/shock value" choices made by the increasingly stagnant McFarlane line.
